Michigan B184 Report January 23, 2004 |
Back to B184 updates * Previous * Next
1. Shipment received All the boxes received. We opened all of them and relocated the parts and tools in a way that the same types are put together so that one can easily find what he needs. I didn't see any chairs with the shipment. Did we send any chairs? WE need at lease 6-8 chairs in bld 184. If time allows, buy from US is heaper. Otherwise we can buy here. 2) Space Not clear yet when Italian people will leave. It was mentioned begiining and Feb. then middle of Feb, last week said end of Feb. In anycase we need to start setup another one or two stations from early Feb. It's questionable that whether we could have the barrack by the end of this month. Joerg told me he was mad when I pushed him (He is a nice and coopertive guy). Bld 184 is a little bit cold (60-62 F). Particularly when the door is open for moving stuffs. We contacked CERN technical service center and they sent people to tune the temperature. At the moment, we have to setup all our PCs in bld 184. 3) Crane I observed how Italians flip their chamber with the big crane (the 5 Ton one right beside the huge one) operated by CERN operators. I then discussed with Joerg and the head of the crane team. We think it's possible to arrange flip our chamber with the major crane. This time the operators seems are CERN staffs. They are very much easy to talk with. I even asked the possibility that they come to bld 184 in a regular base, say once everyday. The head said it was possible. My opinion is to use this crane to flip our chamber as much as we can. This will significantly save our time and space. Then we should use the small crane as a backup. 3) Gas syatem Struggled two days to make it work. It works now. But small leaks on the paths need to be further checked. We also need to test it for pressurizing chamber. Actually, this system can be used to monitor chamber pressure with 0.01 bar accuracy. Paolo and Joerg helped a lot on this work. 4) DAQ systems a) two stands for gas leak certification have been tested and they are working b) for cosmic ray test: Jeff is working effectively on them. Jeff may say more on the phone meeting. 5) Epoxy chambers Alan and Resa work wonderfully on this work so far. This is a work needs to be extremely careful. We epoxy both tubelet bends and half jumper location. Top multilayer of two chambers have been finished (they are working on the second one when I leave bld 184) 6) Joerg gave me new barcode which MUST be sticked on the space frame, 4 for each chamber. I have add this step to our check list. (I have not yet print out the check list) 7) shopping list I shall appreciate it very much if Helmut or some other people could help purchase the following: a) 5 packs plastic glovers (we may have in D0 cabinets) b) 400 Q tips with sharp head (for applying epoxy). c) 6 chairs (existing ones or some simple chairs availabe in Meijers) d) Tissues (40 packs) Beside, I feel the most urgent thing here at bld 184 for the chamber work is to have the beam used to lift chamber certified as early as possible. Otherwise we cannot even flip the chambers. I believe Curtis is working on it. I'll have to leave at 5:30 for an appointment to have a green plate of a car I decided to buy. I therefore send this message before the meeting. By the wy, Rachel is helping as much as she can here at bld 184. She speaks French and is very much familiar with CERN environment, which is a great help to us. Zhengguo Zhao
