Michigan B184 Update December 10, 2004 |
Back to B184 updates * Previous * Next
UM chambers ----------- EML4A07: this is one of the two dropped chambers that was damaged. It's now sitting on the floor of blgd 184 for machanical repair. Curtis is working it. The tube which had HV trip at around 2kV is now found to be normal in terms of resistance and dark current. The reason of the HV trip might be the gas was not flushed and the gas input path of this tube may not as smmoth as the others. Since we were in a hurry to know the major problems at that time, we decided to by pass this tube. Now this tube is connected to the chamber and we will test it with CR data once we have a chance. EML4C07: the second dropped chamber. Not much to do with it since we think that it has been repaired. It's still sitting in bldg 184 and long term test may needed (leak, CR data) UW chambers ----------- 1. Chambers reworked and passed CR test: EML2C09, EMS3C16, EML1C07 2. chamber in progress EMS3A08: taking CR data EML2A09: just opened and flushed gas. dark current was found very high. EMS3C14: T sensor and inplane system tested, is testing dark current EIL4C11: This is special type of chamber. Starting doing mezz card HV off scan and hopefully can take CR data tonight. It seems RO and HV sides were reversed and therefore much work need to be done for correcting the errors. This is under discussion and UW people are working on it. EIL4C09: Are testing dark current. Problems and other issues ------------------------- 1. for working with UW special chambers, such as EIL4, UM team is not familiar with what and how to do it. Particularly when something is even not decided or planned in advance. In this case more coordination is requested to make thing done in a correct and effective way. Here are some suggestions: a) UW provide working package for each new type of chamber, and drawing and tables which is necessary (e.g. T sensor cabling, Mb cabling....) to the operators. Also first explain to me (or together with operators) with chamber. b) Paul, David and me should meet at least twice a week to plan and discuss the strategy and plans for the work to be done. David and me usually meet morning and plan the daily work. c) Parts inventory. This can be only done by UW people since we are not familiar with their parts. But we are willing to help whatever we can. d) David is responsible for UM chamber transportation and handling. I certainly will help watching the safety issue, and communicate with the crane team. e) The leak rate certification is the responsibility of UW people. Usually David. And the checking of grounding between T sensors and DCS box is Matt's responsibility. f) Final ok to the traveler must be from UW people since some definitions for UW chambers are different from UMs. This step is to make sure that check list has fully gone through, and data on the list is correct. However, the ok to the electronics test and CR test should come from UM people (Claudio and I usually). 2. Xmas holiday at CERN: 2004-12-17 --- 2005-01-03 a) No gas service once the gas run out during the holiday. b) Students are leaving next Tuesday. Zhengguo Zhao
